We are HEE Skills Academy for Health preferred provider across Kent, Surrey and Sussex and rated Ofsted Good. Most recently awarded the Mayor of London Adult Education allocations to deliver Functional Skills to London residents. Purpose of Job The Functional Skills Tutor will be responsible for the delivery of numeracy and literacy accredited qualifications. They will be expected to plan for, teach and support learners to complete their functional skills qualifications from Entry 3 to Level 2. Performance will be measured against a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) covering learner induction, retention, progress, unit achievement, timely reviews, qualification achievements and progressions. Duties and responsibilities As a specialist Functional Skills Tutor you will guide and support the learner throughout their journey. You will; * Prepare and review session plans, scheme of work and teaching/learning materials using initial assessments and marked work to consider the learners’ individual needs. * Plan and deliver engaging and exciting training sessions to inspire and motivate learners in classroom and workplace environment, depending on employer requirements. * Travel to workplace sessions, to deliver planned functional skills sessions to individuals and groups. * Complete initial assessment activities and agree Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) with learners. * Prepare learners for examinations to gain the appropriate qualifications. * Continually monitor and review learners’ progress via caseload management. * Assist in the writing, design and development of curriculum through planning time and standardisation meetings. * Monitor attendance, punctuality and progress. * To consistently deliver high standards of teaching and learning. * To provide learners with one-to-one support in a contextualised setting. * Act on feedback from teaching observations, employers peers or other review processes. * Undertake necessary training to professionally develop and keep abreast with current practices and legislation within the sector (if required). * Attend planning and coordination meetings as required. * Invigilate exams when needed. * To provide accurate and timely formative and summative assessment and feedback to learners, and maintain assessment records, including tracking and reporting of learner progress in line with the organisation’s policy. * Identifying and support learners with special learning and special needs. Other * To perform any other duties consistent with this position as may from time to time be assigned to you anywhere within the Company. * Comply with and complete all relevant company paperwork. * Comply with statutory and company policies and procedures. * Work collaboratively with all members of the team. * Abide by Ofsted, QCF and company regulations always, ensuring that learner files satisfy awarding body criteria. * Actively participate in, and promote the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults. * Practice and promote the importance of equal opportunities and diversity considerations, both for learners, and within the workplace. * Attend bi-monthly team meetings and standardisation meetings. * Keep up to date with changes to national standards. * Work towards further professional qualifications to enhance skills and knowledge. * Organise and maintain a CPD file, ensuring current occupation competence is up to date and recorded. Qualifications Essential: * Holds a teaching qualification, at least a Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTTLS) * At least Level 3 in English/Maths * Prior experience of teaching English and Maths Desirable: * Experience of teaching in a further education environment. Knowledge * Excellent knowledge of basic MS Office packages, including Word, Powerpoint and Outlook. * Knowledge of Functional Skills curricula and examinations process. * An understanding of pressures of NHS or similar environment.
